The 21-year-old swapped United for Benfica this summer for a fee worth up to £7.5 million ($9.8m) but inserted a £16m ($20.9m) buy-back clause for the left-back. Now, according to Correio da Manha, Liverpool's interest in recruiting the Benfica left-back 'is real' and new United boss Ruben Amorim wants to bring him back to Old Trafford in January.

The report adds that while United have that bargain deal available to them, other suitors such as Liverpool will have to pay a lot more. Indeed, the Benfica defender reportedly has a €50m (£41.5m) release clause in his contract. Carreras never made a first-team appearance for United and now he is a man in demand.
